If you're planning a Barndance, which some call a Ceilidh, we have an approach which you may find interesting. Thanks to digital wizardry, the music can now be played on just one instrument, yet it sounds like a traditional Folk Dance Band. This has two advantages for you: firstly we don't take up much space, so you can fit in more dancers: secondly, because there are only two of us, the cost is significantly less than a conventional band of this nature. All ages can participate together and we specialise in entertaining folk who might never have done this sort of thing before; no experience is necessary! The Caller, who is by far the most important aspect of a set-up like ours explains everything very clearly, everyone gets it right and a good time is had by all.
In a lot of bands this tends to be a musician who explains the sequences once at the beginning of each dance and then sits down and plays. This is a recipe for disaster. Contrary to popular opinion, it is not a 'laugh' when everything goes wrong; people soon grow bored and demonstrate a marked reluctance to join in!
Our Caller is in ‘amongst it’ all the time making sure it works; he has a hands-free radio mike so that you can hear what he is saying over the music.
The music we play and the dances we use are all Traditional Old English, not to be confused with Irish, Scottish, American, Country & Western or Line Dancing! Generations of your forbears will probably have danced like this to these tunes and now its your turn!
This is all about having fun and there's no shortage of that when we're around! So whether you're fund-raising or just want the best kind of party, for all ages, this is for you!
We bring everything we need, so all we ask is an electric point and somewhere to park.
APES'JAPES in action!
This was a function for the Ely-Ribe Association. Ribe is the town in Denmark that Ely is twinned with. The film was taken by one of the Danish visitors.
