AN ENGLISH MAN AT HOME

is an anthology of poems of a wide range of styles and subject matter, many displaying Chris’ gently satirical sense of humour, while some are more reflective or contemplative. Their two unifying factors are their accessibility and their distinct Englishness.

Chris Gutteridge

Chris Gutteridge
has been writing poetry for about five years whilst suffering from ME. He was one of the Forward Press Top 100 Poets of 1999 and was selected to represent West Norfolk in the United Press National Anthology for 2001 He has had poems published in numerous anthologies and poetry magazines, has appeared on radio, and given many public readings of his works which have been enthusiastically received. He lives with his family in West Norfolk.

"His compelling poetry covers a whole range of styles but every single poem hits the mark. He talks with authority about relationships, modern men, and the frustrations and contradictions of life."

Contact Magazine, December 1999

"I enjoyed [Chris's] poems. His verse is very light on its feet."

George Szirtes, poet.

"Chris's poems do seem to me to have genuine talent.....a personality, a sense of humour, a good grip on the technical aspects........the Hawking poem is a good little squib. 'Prince' is very affecting because it is so direct, unassuming, unposed. The almost-sonnet.....English Christians is fun, the last two lines especially."

Michael Hulse, poet and publisher.

"I shortlisted 'All Men Are Bastards' ..........Agree with the sentiments here!"

Patricia Oxley, Editor, Acumen Magazine
